PM Srettha will first attend a meeting at Phuket International Airport at 12:10pm to hear an overview of the development of transportation infrastructure on the island, the Phuket office of the Public Relations Department (PR Phuket), reported through a notice posted online late yesterday (Sept 27).

At 1:30pm, he will travel to the planned construction site of the ‘Kathu-Patong Expressway Project’, commonly called the ‘Patong Tunnel’ project, to meet with representatives from government agencies and local citizens to listen to opinions on solving traffic problems and expanding routes to accommodate tourists,

From there, the prime minister will travel to the planned site of the ‘Andaman International Airport’ in Khok Kloi, Phang Nga, where at 3pm he will hear a summary of the construction project for the new airport, which is hoped to be operating by 2027.

Following his visit to Khok Kloi, PM Srettha will return to Bangkok.

Leading Phuket officials and key business figures met last week to agree on an extensive list of critical issues facing residents on the island, and the island’s tourism industry, which are to be presented to Prime Minister Srettha during his visit.

Among the issues to be presented are delays with major government projects, the ‘Andaman airport’ to be built in Phang Nga, water resource issues and the state of the island’s taxi services.

PM Srettha was last in Phuket on Aug 25, less than 48 hours after he was royally endorsed as the 30th Prime Minister of Thailand.

During that visit, he was also presented with many critical issues negatively affecting Phukte’s development as a tourism destination.
