Heavy rains lashed Phuket overnight and well into this morning, causing flooding of roads and homes in many parts of the island, with landslides and fallen trees also making many roads unpassable.
The report, released via the PR Phuket Facebook channel, stated that in Kathu water levels had largely decreased and most roads were now passable, including in Phakdee Village and Sinthao Village, where small cars are now able to move through.
The road behind Loch Palm Golf Course where it splits to the temple had experienced landslides and fallen trees and therefore was still unpassable.
Patong and Phuket Town were reported to be back to normal after initial flood waters subsided.
Kamala experienced heavy flooding on the main road and the report stated at the time of its release the area arund Soi Ohlala was still immersed in water and generally unpassable. The report also noted there had been significant flood damage to at least 10 homes in the region.
The situation in the Koh Kaew area was still waiting to be addressed with water yet to becompletey drained from most roads, resulting in heavy traffic jams in the area.
Villages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9 and 11 in the Thepkrasattri area had all endured heavy flooding and were still awaiting relief works when the report was released while water was still waiting to be drained at Dream Village, Baan Phon Housing Estate, Prime Place Village, and I Leaf Town Village 1 and 2 in Srisoonthorn where small cars have been denied access to roads.
Flood waters were still waiting to be cleared in the Sopta Eiad, Soi Palai and Tak Daet Village in Chalong and a wall had collapsed Chaofa Village in Wichit due to the rains which had caused significant delays for road traffic.
The major roads in Cherng Talay had cleared although there was still some flooding in Pasak 1 and Pasak 8, which had closed both roads at the time of the report’s release. Sand bags had been laid at certain spots in the area to alleviate the situation and around 10 homes had experienced heavy flood damage, the report stated.
There was no information received in the report for Rawai, Pa Khlok, while the situation generally in Ratsada, Mai Khoa and Karon was reported as normal.
Additionally, a relief centre has been set up in Kathu to help those impacted by the overnight floods, predominantly in Loch Palm, Phakdi Village and Katu-Nagok Road, areas that experienced heavy flooding that left many roads inaccessible and many homes damaged.
Kathu Mayor Wannayut Suttikul led a team to these areas to help clear debris and fallen trees so as to open the roads up quickerband also distributed boxes of drinking water to local residents.
The relief centre, which will be operational for one week, is located at theKathu Municipal Office where those affected can submit a request for assistance with a proof of house registration, a copy of their national ID card and a photo of the damage. For more information call 06 3874 9717.
