The ‘Seven Days’ safety campaign for Songkran 2024 began at midnight Wednesday night and will continue through to midnight next Wednesday night (Apr 17). The first day of the campaign concluded at midnight last night.
Of note, while the reports for the ‘Seven Days’ safety campaigns for both the Jan 1 New Year holidays and for the Songkran holidays are compiled by the Phuket branch of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM Phuket), the report by DDPM Phuket posted this morning marked zero deaths but 65 people injured in accidents throughout the 24 hours of yesterday (Apr 11).
Throughout the year DDPM Phuket includes that daily tally of deaths and injuries in road accidents in Phuket as reported by national road safety agency ThaiRSC in its daily report online. During previous ‘Seven Days’ campaign, DDPM Phuket has usually ceased to do so while local officials report much lower figures.
ThaiRSC currently reports 55 deaths and 7,810 people injured in road accidents in Phuket since Jan 1.
