Tha Chatchai Police said they were alerted at 5:42pm by the Phuket Provincial Police 191 radio centre that a man had leapt from the bridge’s observation tower, on the Phang Nga side in Khok Kloi, Takua Thung District.
Witnesses described the man as fair-skinned, wearing a brown long-sleeved shirt, grey trousers and sneakers. Officers quickly coordinated with the Tha Chatchai checkpoint and local traffic control teams to search the bridge and surrounding waters.
Upon arrival, they were told the man had jumped into the sea and disappeared beneath the surface. Rescue workers from the Kusoldham Phuket Foundation, along with local fishermen, launched boats to comb the area, but were unable to locate him.
Police have since identified the man as Thiraphat Hongkaew, from Nakhon Sri Thammarat.
The search was continuing as of last night.
