Young Loïc Paints the World

SUPPLIED: Phuket's 8-year-old artist, Loïc Tim, is back in the spotlight, celebrating his third award achieved  in Bulgaria. His artistic journey began at just four years old, when he first entered the World Competition for Children’s Drawings in 2021, winning his first bronze prize for his piece, “The Galaxy of Space.” Competing against 6,000 entries from over 50 countries, Loïc’s work was recognized under the theme “Green Planet.” That same year, he also earned an Honorable Mention in Nova Zagora for his entry, “Under the Sea,” with both artworks showcased in the award-winning exhibitions.

This time, Loïc has once again captured attention by winning another bronze prize at the XI World Competition for Children’s Drawings, which attracted 7,000 entries from 80 countries with the theme “The Imaginary Journey”. His painting titled “Adventure Out” depicts a camel embarking on a desert journey in search of a flower on a nearby cactus. 

Ivana Kostadinova, manager of the Little Zograff Foundation, praised Loïc’s imaginative storytelling, stating, “For me, it conveys the beauty of the species of the East in a captivating way.” She further noted “Loïc uses beautiful harmony of colors, he shows impressive talent and remarkable technical skills and mastery of various painting techniques, which are exceptional for someone his age.”

Loïc is invited to attend the award ceremony and art exhibition opening on November 16, 2024 in Bulgaria. The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Kingdom of Thailand, Sivasit Laohapongchana, together with the Consul of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of Bulgaria, Viktor Melamed congratulated Loïc warmly, and support the young artist with recognition. Loïc is honored to meet them. He shared his passion for art. They took photos together and showed support for the upcoming art event “Thailand Biennale Phuket 2025.”

During the trip, Loïc had a privilege to encounter with renowned Bulgarian artist Nikolay Yanakiev in his art exhibition, as well as visits to the Museum of History and the National Art Gallery. These experiences enriched Loïc’s understanding of diverse artistic techniques and cultural heritage. “Bulgaria felt like a time machine,” Loïc remarked, reflecting on the contrast between modern and historical lifestyles.

Art Growing Journey 

In addition to his achievements in Bulgaria, Loïc has also won a major award at the XVI International Wildlife Festival “Golden Turtle” in Moscow for his photo “Starfish to be Rescued.” taken in Phuket. This stunning image earned third place in the “Nature through the Eyes of Children” category. Since he was four, Loïc has participated in numerous international art competitions, earning first place and gold award and recognitions in Thailand, the USA, Hong Kong, Turkey, and Poland.

At just six years old, Loïc began exploring a wider range of paints on canvas, completing his first piece, “World in the Future,” after six months of dedicated effort. This 80x100 cm artwork, created using oil paints and acrylics, reflects his visionary imagination from the birth of mother’s embryo teleporting to the future. “For Loïc, art is a gateway to exploring the world, connecting cultures, and expressing ideas,” Loic’s mother Nicole noted.

Loïc’s growing portfolio includes 48 artworks from ages two to seven, showcased at the Tree O’clock Gallery from June 10 to July 20, 2024. Gallery owner Rebecca Zhang recognized his talent and invited him to exhibit his first solo show at seven years old, which was supported by renowned local artists and the head of the Phuket Art Association Anchalee Tephabutra at the grand opening of his first exhibition. “Ms. Anchalee’s recognition and encouragement to young artists, especially her devotion to culture and art in Phuket, is highly respected,” Nicole said.

This support validates the significance of Loïc’s work and encourages him to continue creating. “We have been fortunate to connect with many wonderful people through this journey, including the Ambassador, consular representatives, the Phuket Governor and the press. It’s been an enriching experience for life.” 

“Each award and exhibition holds significant meaning for our family,” Nicole said. “What matters most is the opportunity to explore meaningful themes and the bond we share through our deep communications.”

Loïc’s recent entry in the PMAC 2025 World Art Contest in Thailand, titled “A Happier and Healthier World,” was selected as a finalist, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to his art.

Loïc’s mother encourages children to participate in global competitions, emphasizing the value of understanding diverse topics and embracing challenges. “These experiences help children see how artists from around the world interpret themes differently and encourage the sharing of ideas,” she concluded.
