Meanwhile, tonight will see the commencement of the three-night grand finale of the Heroines’ Festival which began on Mar 3.
Gov Norraphat led this morning’s (Mar 13) event at 9:09am and joining him were Phuket Vice Governor Snith Sriwihok, Phuket Provincial Police Commander Maj Gen Teeraphol Thipjaroen, President of Thao Thepkrasattri – Thao Srisoonthorn Foundation Dr Yuwat Wuttimaetee, the Phuket Provincial Administrative Chief Officer (Palad) Sakchai Kunanuwatchaidet, Thalang District Chief Adul Chuthong, President of the Phuket Red Cross Sudarat Plodthong and others.
The beginning of the ceremony saw Gov Norraphat place a wealth and light candles in front of the Heroines Monument. A speech of praise speech was then read out to honour Thao Thepkrasattri and Thao Srisoonthorn.
The event also featured a ‘Manora’ Southern Thai dance, Thai music and the singing of the ‘Yod Naree Sri Thalang’ (Best Women of Thalang) song. The song was composed to honour Thao Thepkrasattri and Thao Srisoonthorn’s bravery when they scarified flesh and blood to protect the city.
Meanwhile, the three-night grand finale for the Heroines’ festival will get underway tonight at the Phuket Historical Park in Thalang and will recreate the ambience of the era of the Rattanakosin Kingdom of the Two Heroines, with a cultural market and shows exhibiting light, music and drama of the period.
Government officials have almost completed the setting up of various artefacts including a traditional market place resembling a local village, with homes made from bamboo and coconut leaves and various decorations to simulate historical Thalang.
The Phuket Provincial Hall’s Public Relations (PR) Department said, “The aim is to simulate the atmosphere of the way of life of the era in not only the light and sound show, which will take over an hour, but also the food, way of dressing, and folk games.
“The atmosphere at the event will reflect for our tourists a return to the days of Thao Thepkrasattri- Thao Srisoonthorn.
“Whether it is through representing the homes of the heroines, canals, etc... the main goal is to create a monument which will potentially develop into a landmark in Thalang. In the future, it will be another important tourist attraction in Phuket,” said the PR department.
