Wichit Police were called to the scene, in the Phuket Villa 3 housing estate, at about 3:12am.
The woman’s boyfriend told police that he had gone upstairs to take a shower when he heard a loud noise from downstairs. Rushing to investigate, he found his girlfriend hanged from the railing of the stairs.
Despite the immediate intervention by relatives, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Rescue units responded promptly, but their efforts could not save her.
The woman, registered as living in Moo 1, Chalong, had a history of depression, and the suicide note she left behind confirmed her struggle, the boyfriend said.
Authorities have informed the relevant agencies and are following standard procedures, including sending the body to the hospital for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Thalang Police were called to a home in Moo 5, Srisoonthorn at 3:10am after a young man was found with deep lacerations to his wrist, neck and chest in what appeared to be an attempt to take his own life with a box cutter.
The man was rushed to Thalang Hospital. His current condition has yet to be confirmed.
Police have yet to reveal a motive for the man’s attempt.
