The incident occurred at around 8:30pm, as the woman, identified only as ‘Ms Nina’, was driving home from Patong to Kamala. Dashcam footage from her car shows a white BMW veering into her lane from the opposite direction along the narrow, two-lane road near Kalim Beach.

The car, driven by a foreign man, was on the wrong side of the road, directly at Ms Nina, in what appered to be an attempt by the man to bypass the long tailback of traffic that was blocking him.

The man stopped directly in front of Ms Nina’s car with its hazard lights flashing. Despite the pouring rain, the man exited the vehicle, appeared agitated, and began yelling while making aggressive gestures. He then walked up to Ms Nina’s car, struck the side window, and assumed a Muay Thai-like fighting stance.

In a statement to reporters, Ms Nina said she was startled but managed to avoid further confrontation by quickly swerving into the motorcycle lane and driving away. She described the man as intoxicated and said she did not feel it was safe to engage with him. Fortunately, no damage was caused to her vehicle.

“There was no way to talk sense to him. He was clearly not sober,” she said. “I just wanted to get out of there safely.”

Ms Nina later filed a formal report with Patong Police Station.

The dashcam footage quickly spread across Thai social media platforms, sparking widespread criticism of the tourist’s behaviour. Many online commenters pointed to the incident as evidence of problems with Thailand’s visa-free policies, with some calling for stricter enforcement of traffic and public safety laws for foreign visitors.

As of press time, authorities have not confirmed whether the man involved has been identified or whether any further legal action is being taken.
