The arrest was announced yesterday (Nov 19) at Phuket City Police Station, where Phuket Provincial Police Deputy Commander Pol Col Kittipong Klaikaew and Phuket City Police Superintendent Pol Col Chatri Chukaew led the questioning of the suspect, 30-year-old Wanasanan Nunkam.
According to investigators, Ms Wanasanan was wanted under Phuket Provincial Court warrant No. 1086/2568, issued on Nov 18, on charges of supporting and defrauding the public and illegally collecting, disclosing and selling personal data for the purpose of committing technology-related offences.
Police allege that Ms Wanasanan sold a customer database to Khanapha ‘Muk’ Mengsan, 31, who then used the information to send unsolicited COD parcels to recipients across the country.
Following information that Ms Wanasanan was staying at a house in Soi Phet Ladda 2 in Thep Krasattri, Thalang, officers moved in at about 8pm on Tuesday (Nov 18) and found her inside. After confirming her identity, officers presented the arrest warrant. Police said she admitted to being the person named in the warrant and had not previously surrendered to authorities.
She was informed of her rights and taken to Phuket City Police Station for further questioning, where she reportedly confessed to the charges.
Ms Khanapha was arrested on Sunday night (Nov 16). In placing her under arrest, officers seized more than 20,000 items. Officers also found that her laptop contained a database of over 100,000 customer names.
A financial check showed her account received around B80,000 daily from COD deliveries. Many seized products were illegal or unregistered cosmetics, prompting the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office to join the investigation.
Khanapha faces charges for selling unregistered cosmetics and for failing to provide Thai-language labels, carrying possible fines and up to one month in jail.
