Pol Col Somsak Thongkliang, Superintendent of Wichit Police Station, said the action followed a complaint received via social media from a local resident alleging that a Myanmar national had opened and was operating a nail and beauty salon opposite Mai Mon Resort in the Muang Thong area.

Officers arrived at the salon on Sunday (Dec 7), but found the woman was not there as it was her day off. So officers returned yesterday afternoon (Dec 8) and found the woman ‒ identified by police 31-year-old as April May Oo ‒ washing customers’ hair and providing beauty services.

Officers identified themselves and placed her under arrest, Wichit Police reported.

April May Oo was taken into custody and transferred to Wichit Police Station for questioning. Police charged her with working outside the scope of her legal permission in Thailand, specifically in restricted occupations of hairdressing and beauty services.

Police said legal proceedings would also be taken against the employer for allowing a foreign national to work illegally.

“This may seem like a minor matter, but police must strictly enforce the law,” Col Somsak said. “Foreign nationals, regardless of nationality, are prohibited from working in occupations reserved for Thai people. Allowing this undermines job opportunities for Thai citizens.”

Col Somsak said Wichit Police will continue inspections of beauty salons and other businesses following similar complaints, and warned that further arrests will be made as part of the ongoing enforcement campaign.
