The crackdown took place on Saturday night (Mar 15), as law enforcement officers targeted hotspots in Mueang District.
At 9pm, officers led by Wichit Police Chief Pol Col Somsak Thongkliang, alongside other senior officers, launched a coordinated effort to arrest young racers and at-risk youth under the age of 18.
The operation was part of broader measures to prevent street racing, illegal gatherings and traffic violations in the area, Pol Col Somsak said.
Officers set up checkpoints at known trouble spots, including Klong Mudong and Laem Dinso, areas frequently cited in public complaints. During the operation, one individual was arrested for carrying a knife, and offenders were fined in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act.
Among those detained, 10 were minors. Their parents were summoned to hear explanations about their children’s actions and the legal consequences they face. Police confirmed that legal action will proceed under the Child Protection Act of 2003, specifically Sections 26(3) and 78.
Pol Col Somsak emphasised the ongoing commitment to enforcing traffic laws and cracking down on youth gangs engaging in illegal motorcycle racing. He also highlighted efforts to prevent crimes involving weapons.
The operation received strong support from the public, and authorities pledged to continue such enforcement to maintain safety and order in the community.
