The latest operation, conducted in the Laem Dinso area early yesterday morning (Apr 4), aims to curb reckless behaviour that endangers the community, Wichit Police Chief Pol Col Somsak Thongkliang said.
A similar sweep earlier this week saw the parents of 14 minors apprehended in a police operation in Ao Yon facing legal consequences for allowing their children to engage in illegal activities.
Wichit Police have identified Laem Dinso as a hotspot for illegal street racing, with frequent public complaints about noise and dangerous driving, Pol Col Somsak said.
Following the arrests, the parents of the detained youths were summoned for a briefing on their children’s actions and legal responsibilities. They were given an explanation as to what was happening, then handed over to the investigation officer to be charged under the Child Protection Act of 2003 and related traffic laws, Pol Col Somsak added.
Pol Col Somsak emphasized that this was the second major crackdown this month, reflecting the police’s commitment to tackling illegal racing.
“We will continue to take strict action against young racers who cause disturbances in the community. We urge parents to take responsibility and prevent their children from engaging in such behaviour,” he said.
