The PEA Thalang branch yesterday (June 23) confirmed power outages at 26 locations across the northern half of Phuket ‒ from Pa Khlok on the east coast, to Cherng Talay on the west coast, to Mai Khao in the northern part of the island.

PEA Phuket earlier today apologised for having to cut off power supply to Koh Maphrao while workers cleared branches that had been brought down onto power lines by the ongoing storm conditions across Phuket.

Residents in Ratsada were forced to endure a major power outage while workers contend with similar problems there.

In Karon, local residents and businesses are suffering an all-day outage along both sides of the Kata-Saiyuan Road, from Soi Laem Mum Nai to the Sea Theatre Hotel.

The outages follow heavy storm conditions since Saturday night (June 22), with heavy rains and winds gusting up to 35km/h bringing down trees across Phuket, sometimes onto power lines, other times onto homes.

So far there have been no reports of injuries as a result of tree-fall.

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has reissued a weather warning for heavy storm conditions to continue along the Andaman coast, including Phuket, until at least Wednesday (June 26).

Already for the month of June the Phuket branch of the TMD (Phuket Met) has reported more than 200mm of rainfall across Phuket.

People are urged to exercise caution and to monitor weather alerts while the heavy weather continues.

Small boats have been asked to refrain from leaving shore while wind-waves are forecast to reach up to three metres high in thunderstorm areas.
