The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) station at Phuket airport confirmed a maximum wind speed of 68km/h blasting the area during the height of the storm, which also brought torrential downpours.
Wichit and Thepkrasattri Municipalities have confirmed felled trees. minor flooding and minor damage to secondary roads.
The Phuket branch of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) has confirmed teams have been deployed to repair downed power lines at multiple locations, causing power outages.
PEA Phuket reported teams working on restoring power supply to Soi Thanitthurakit in Wichit, Soi Pa Maphrao in Koh Kaew and Soi Khao To Sae in Phuket Town.
Meanwhile, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued its seventh consecutive warning for “heavy rain and strong wind waves in the northern Andaman Sea”.
Wirote Lewcharoenthrap, Director of the TMD’s Southern Meteorological Center (West Coast) branch, based near Phuket airport, noted, “From July 17th to 19th, 2024, a strong southwest monsoon will affect the northern Andaman Sea and the west coast of Southern Thailand. This will lead to widespread rain, heavy at times, and in some areas, very heavy rain is expected.
“The provinces likely to be affected include Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. Residents should be cautious of these severe weather conditions.
“Wind waves in the northern Andaman Sea will also be strong, reaching heights of 2-3 meters, and even higher than 3 meters near thunderstorm areas. All marine vessels are advised to proceed with caution, avoid thunderstorm areas, and small boats in the northern Andaman Sea should stay ashore. People are urged to stay informed about these severe conditions,” the warning concluded.
The weather “advisory” was marked ot be in effect until at least 5am tomorrow.
The national TMD headquarters in Bangkok yesterday issued a nationwide alert for flash floods brought on by “heavy to very heavy rain” that is marked to remain in effect through Friday (July 19).
