Saroj Angkanapilas, Mayor of Phuket City, along with Deputy Mayor Supachoke La-ongphet, officially launched the campaign at the Phuket Municipaity Waterworks Division on Thursday (Apr 25).
Mr Saroj remarked how the campaign strives to raise awareness as to the importance of water management all year round and not only during the dry season.
Even though rain is expected soon, people should be mindful of availability and use every drop of water wisely, Mr Saroj added.
As part of the campaign, officials took to the streets on foot and in vehicles aided by loudspeaker to spread the message of the value and importance of water preservation and to ask for the cooperation of local residents.
Extra focus will be placed on the economical use of tap water and the importance of checking for leaks in pipes. If any leaks are found, people should contact the water department directly on 076 – 211-130, a service that ia available 24 hours a day.
Furthermore, the campaign is advising people to prepare water reserves in the event of shortages by storing water in appropriate containers based on their necessary requirements.
Water distribution points will also be available at four designated points: the well on Narisorn - Palian Road; the well on Damrong Road near Phuket Girls School; the well at Community Hall; and the well at Chaloem Phrakiat Rama 9 Park.
Further assistance can be sought and inquiries can be made at the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Building on Kra Rd or by calling hotline 199 and telephone number 076-211-111.
