The issue of waste separation was highlighted during an inspection visit of the Phuket Provincial Waste Disposal Center and Incinerator at Saphan Hin by members of the Phuket Provincial Governance Board yesterday (June 26).
Peeraphit Aongcharoen, Vice Chairman of the Phuket Provincial Governance Board, led the board members in monitoring and reviewing the progress of Phuket’s budget projects for fiscal year 2024.
The session was attended by Jakkrit Songsang, Head of Wastewater Treatment and Acting Head of the Solid Waste and Sewage Management Group at the Phuket Provincial Waste Disposal Center.
Mr Jakkrit reported on the progress of four major projects:
- Water Quality Improvement Management Project with a budget of B23 million
- Landfill Management Project with a budget of B8mn
- Incineration System Waste Management Project with a budget of B65mn
- Contracting Private Sector for Infectious Waste Disposal Project with a budget of B8mn.
During the review, the Provincial Governance Board made several recommendations. They recommendation was for Phuket City Municipality to ramp its importance of waste segregation management.
Additionally, they stressed the need for educational initiatives to teach students and the public about waste separation.
The board also highlighted the importance of ensuring that the allocated budgets for these projects are utilized efficiently to benefit the community to the fullest extent.
