The arrest took place at the international arrivals hall at about 9pm on Tuesday (Oct 22).

The arrest was led by a team from the Phuket Immigration Bureau, performing duties in accordance with orders given by Pol Maj Gen Chengron Rimphidi, Commander of Immigration Bureau 2, said a report posted online by immigration officers at the airport.

The arresting officers included Pol Col Rungroj Nilamongkol, Deputy Commander of Immigration Bureau 2, and Pol Col Atisak Panya, Superintendent of Immigration Bureau 2, the report said.

The investigation team, led by Pol Lt Col. Akkaraphon Keawkiattiyot, and Snr Sgt Sergeant Major Aksorn Chawkamkhet of the Phuket Immigration Checkpoint, apprehended the suspect on charges of “using a forged seal, stamp, or stamping sheet”, the report confirmed.

The Uzbek man was taken into custody at the airport and transferred to Sakhu Police Station for further legal action, said the report.

The report did not identify the Uzbek man by name, and did not define exactly which stamps in the passport were allegedly fake.
