Patong Police were notified at around 11:10pm of a man who had died at Patong Hospital following a violent altercation in front of the Jungceylon shopping mall on Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Rd.
At Patong Hospital, officers found the body of Sahachai Junmar, 30, from Thung Song District, Nakhon Sri Thammarat. He had suffered stab wounds to the chest and right rib cage and was pronounced dead on arrival.
Another man, Chirawat Pratumchat, 43, from Roi Et Province, also sustained injuries after being stabbed in the left cheekbone. He was treated for his wounds and later taken into police custody pending legal proceedings.
Witnesses told police that both men worked as tuk-tuk drivers based in front of Jungceylon. They had reportedly been waiting in line for passengers when an argument broke out, quickly escalating into a violent confrontation in which both men drew knives.
The fight left Sahachai fatally wounded, while Chirawat was injured before bystanders intervened.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to confirm the sequence of events, Patong Police confirmed.
