The national exercise, titled ‘Crisis Management Exercise: C-MEX 25’ will be carried out by disaster officials throughout the country from June 24–27.

DDPM Phuket Chief Wichit Sutthaso explained that C-MEX 25 is a Level 3 national command exercise, with Phuket’s practical training focused specifically at Kamala Beach.

The exercise aims to strengthen disaster response and inter-agency coordination, he told a preparatory meeting on Tuesday (Apr 22).

The drill will involve officers, local residents, and tourists in a simulated tsunami emergency. Activities include five key training stations: evacuation and warnings, search and rescue, emergency medical response, shelter setup and water rescue, Mr Wichit said.

Command and coordination drills will also be conducted at Phuket Provincial Hall in coordination with the central DDPM office in Bangkok.

“The goal is to improve disaster response, enhance coordination between agencies and build public confidence in our ability to handle real emergencies,” Mr Wichit said.

The exercise in Phuket will take place only at Kamala Beach, Mr Wichit noted.

“Other areas such as Mai Khao, Kata and Ley Phang Beaches will not be included in the training,” Mr Wichit added.

Mai Khao and Ley Phang Beaches are currently without any tsunami warning towers, while the tsunami warning siren at Kata Beach is under repair.

C-MEX 25 aims to ensure that local and national agencies are fully prepared to respond quickly and effectively to any future disaster events, particularly those affecting Thailand’s vulnerable coastal communities, Mr Wichit said.
