A total of eight cages have been set up using chickens as bait, Phuket Vice Governor Thawornwat Kongkaew explained earlier today (July 26).

The cage dimensions, 60 centimetres across and 2.5 metres long, were decided on after assessing the tracks found on Bang Tao Beach, he said.

“Drones are in the air searching for the crocodile. There are still many tourists visiting the beach, so officers have been posted on the beach to watch the area closely to ensure the safety of tourists,” he added.

Present at Bang Tao this afternoon were Thalang District Chief Adul Chutthong and Cherng Talay OrBorTor Deputy Chief Siri Thongthong,

“The province has assigned the District Chief and the team of catchers to check throughout the area for more tracks to prove the tracks found are genuine and that the crocodile is still in the area,” V/Gov Thawornwat noted.

“We have a plan to catch this crocodile soon,” he said.

V/Gov Thawornwat said that hungry crocodiles are known to come onto land for food.

“That’s why we are using bait to lure the crocodile into the cages,” he said.

“This is the best way to catch the crocodile and to maintain the image of tourism in Phuket,” he added.
