The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), through its Crime Suppression Division (CSD), apprehended the fugitive, named in the CIB report only as ‘Mr Ekkachai’, at a condominium in Kathu on Tuesday (Oct 15).

Some media reports have reported the location of Ekkachai’s arrest as at the dCondo Creek condo building.

The arrest followed an incident on Oct 3, when Ekkachai was being transported by train under the custody of officers from Region 9 Police, explained the CIB report issued yesterday (Oct 17).

He had been detained on five arrest warrants for property crimes committed in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province.

While en route to Phunphin Police Station in Surat Thani, Ekkachai asked to use the toilet. Taking advantage of the situation, he jumped from the moving train in Ron Phibun District, Nakhon Sri Thammarat, and escaped.

After his escape, Ekkachai contacted his girlfriend, tricking her into picking him up, reported the CIB.

He then stole her car and fled to Tambon Tha Chi, in Baan Na San District, Surat Thani. The girlfriend later filed a complaint, and authorities had yet another warrant issued for his arrest.

Following an investigation, police tracked Ekkachai to a condo in Phuket, where officers from the CSD Division 5 branch moved in and arrested him.

Ekkachai has been returned to Ron Phibun Police Station for further legal proceedings, the CIB confirmed in their report.
