The hugely-popular event returns to Phuket with a whole host of additional fun activities away from the racing for everyone to enjoy and is expected to attract vistors from Phuket and neighbouring provinces. Professional racers and celebrities will be involved, including Pete Thongchua, Thai Tossamit and Zani.
The race itself is a flat car style format, meaning that vehicles do not travel at maximum speed throughout. Male and female drivers will be competing in four separate vehicle models, namely: the standard Yaris; the Yaris Ativ Lady One; the Hi-Lux Revo; and the Corolla Altis GR Sport.
Running concurrently with the two-day race is the Toyota Gazoo Racing Thailand Academy Campus Tour which provides opportunity for youngsters interested in motorsports to learn more about the sport through a series of talks and meet-and-greet sessions with experts and former race winners.
Outside of the action on track, there will be a host of stalls and exhibitions showcasing live musical entertainment, cheerleading squads and an array of delicious food and beverage stands.
A press conference to announce the event was held at Phuket Provincial Hall last Friday (Aug 8) overseen by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, who was joined by Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO), along with various representatives from public and private sector entities.
Governor Sophon explained stated that the event aims to promote and boost the local tourism industry, stimulate the econom and generate income for local businesses, including hotels, shops, and restaurants, adding that it is expected to generate approximately B80 million in revenue.
Furthermore, it aims to enhance Phuket’s image nationally, while promoting safe driving knowledge and broadening the public’s awareness of motorsport.
The opening ceremony starts at 2pm on Saturday, admission is free and everyone is welcome to attend what promises to be another engaging and memorable occasion as the streets of Sapah Hin come alive with the sound of roaring engines.
