Accompanying Pol Lt Gen Saksira were Vice Minister for Tourism and Sports Phonphum Wiphatphiphathapha and Seksom Akkhaphan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Land Transport.

Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum and Charan Sangsan, Vice President of the Phuket Chamber of Commerce, were present to receive the message.

The meeting established several measures. For tourists, this includes coordinating with consulates to educate and inform tourists about the need to have valid driver’s licenses from their home countries and the process for obtaining a driver’s license in Thailand.

The Department of Land Transport will assist tourists in applying for a driver’s license in Thailand, making the process quicker and more convenient.

For local car rental operators, it is essential to understand which driving licenses are valid in Thailand and to ensure that rental contracts are fair to tourists, the meeting was told.

This collaborative effort aims to ensure that foreign tourists rent cars legally, reducing the risk of accidents and improving service standards in the car rental industry, thereby supporting the growth of the tourism sector, Mr Phonphum said.
