Phuket Tourist Police confirmed that the man, unnamed in their report, had been discovered unharmed early this morning (Mar 5).

The Belarusian arrived in Thailand on Feb 18 and initially stayed in Bangkok, before coming to Phuket on Sunday (Mar 3), Tourist Police explained

He stayed at a hotel in the Nai Yang area for one night, then moved to stay at a hotel in Layan, Cherng Talay.

The man explained he went for a walk along the beach, then decided to go trekking in the jungle near the beachfront.

By looking at a map, he thought his journey would not be far, but he soon ended up lost.

The man managed to contact the Tourist Police at 11:18pm.

Officers assembled a search party, which included local police and rescue workers from the Kusuldharm Foundation, and began scouring the area.

The man was found safe at 5:30am.

A medical team was on hand to provide assistance as soon as the man was brought out of the jungle. The man had suffered no injuries during his night in the wild.

Although the emergency hotline in Thailand is 191, non-Thai speakers are strongly urged to instead use the Tourist Police ‘I Lert U’ app (available on Google Play and the App Store), which has repeatedly helps officers safely recover foreign tourists lost in the jungle in Phuket.
