Top events to watch during the SEA Games

SEA GAMES: The upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) will no doubt provide a great range of sporting action for enthusiasts to gorge on during its 12-day duration.

Hosted in Bangkok and Chonburi between Dec 9-20, the following are considered some of the highlight events for spectators in the stadiums and viewers at home to enjoy during the first week:

- Dec 9: Opening ceremony (Rajamangala National Stadium); Sepak Takraw (Nakhon Pathom Gymnasium Stadium)

- Dec 10: Badminton (Thammasat University Rangsit Campus, Pathum Thani); Boxing (Chulalongkorn University)

- Dec 11: Chess (Thaksin University Songkhla Campus, Songkhla); Taekwondo (Fashion Island Shopping Mall)

- Dec 12: Tennis (National Tennis Development Centre, Nonthaburi); Women’s Volleyball (Indoor Stadium Huamark)

- Dec 13: Weightlifting (Chonburi Sports School, Chonburi); Swimming (Sports Authority of Thailand, Bangkok)

Dec 14: Esports (Chulalongkorn University); Wakeboard (ESC Wake Park, Pathum Thani).

The SEA Games is a biennial multi-sport event involving athletes from 11 Southeast Asian countries, organised by the Southeast Asian Games Federation with oversight from the Olympic Council of Asia.

The Games promote regional unity and cultural exchange through a mix of traditional sports like sepak takraw and modern disciplines. The Games are held every two years in odd-numbered years, serving as a platform for athletes to compete internationally and strengthen ties among nations in the region.
