Showcasing parts of Phuket island and the beautiful Phang Nga bay, athletes were challenged over three stages, including a 6.4-kilometre individual time trial on Friday’s day one followed by 150km and 128km road races on Saturday’s day two and Sunday’s day three respectively.
Taking out the general classification elite male category was Muhammad Syelhan Nurrahamat from Malaysia. In the women’s, defending champion and Phuket-based Australian Dimity-Lee Duke from Phuket’s Z-Coaching won the sprint, KOM and overall general classification category.
“Three days of full mental focus and taking out tactics from my back pocket when required. Some may call it the game of chess on wheels! I call it defending my title in back to back years. Thanks to all who provided on course support and made this event possible!” a delighted Dimity-Lee posted on her Facebook account following her impressive feat.
Phuket-based athletes Louisa Middldich from Z-Coaching and Xavier Lecourt from Baracuda teams were also able to celebrate top five positions in their respective categories.
Singapore-based organiser Pablo Toribio from Cycosports expressed his delight at a extremely successful event and stated he is already looking forward to attracting even more local cycling enthusiasts to future events.
With the ongoing assistance from local police in Phuket, the support of the Tourism Authority of Thailand and oficiall certification from the Bicycle Sports Association of Thailand, the next Tour of Phuket is certain be a safe and fun event for all involved.
