The Mar 8 competition saw a round robin format played out to ensure everyone got two games, with the winners progressing to the semi-finals.
Fortune favoured fairness with the draw as no prominent players were ultimately paired together, despite players picked randomly from a hat.
Once play got underway a series of high quality games were contested before the final pairs of Carl “The Mesh” Mesham and partner Rose Swaffield were pitted against the veteran duo of George Sasanow and Coventry Tom.
George and Tom had a great start in the final showdown to take the lead and were threatening to run away with the contest before The Mesh got a lucky deflection to win a crucial end and swing the momentum in his and Rose’s favour.
Finding the form that saw him win the singles title last month, The Mesh turned on the style to ensure he added the pairs title to his trophy cabinet, with partner Rose also taking home a winner’s medal.
