Thaksin was warmly welcomed by prominent figures such as Dhanin Chearavanont, Keeree Kanjanapas, Sarath Ratanavadi, and Komol Jungrungreangkit, reports NNT.
In his speech, Thaksin stressed the urgent need to restore confidence in Thailand’s economy, which he described as severely damaged. He expressed concern over issues such as debt, youth drug addiction, and the high cost of living, emphasizing the importance of strong leadership to address these challenges. He urged Thai businesses to compete on the global stage and criticised the lack of a comprehensive strategy to solve the country’s problems.
Thaksin also discussed the digital wallet stipend project, acknowledging opposition but highlighting its potential to stimulate the economy and utilise blockchain technology for widespread benefits. He is of the opinion that, with an additional B145 billion allocated for the project, the next step should prioritize distributing a B10,000 stipend to 14.5 million vulnerable individuals as part of an initial economic stimulus in September 2024.
He concluded by emphasising the need for effective leadership to tackle the nation’s challenges, particularly in restructuring household and business debt.
Thaksin also hinted at the possibility of the government issuing bonds to retail investors in the future, underscoring the importance of precise and targeted economic solutions.
