The new grouping took place after the withdrawal of Cambodia on Wednesday (Nov 26), reports the Bangkok Post.
Football was one of eight sports from which Cambodia had withdrawn its national teams, citing “significant security concerns.”
Singapore were originally placed in Group C along with defending champions Indonesia, Myanmar and the Philippines.
The revised draw means the following groups will be contested once the competition begins:
Group A: Thailand, Timor-Leste, Singapore
Group B: Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos
Group C: Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar.
Thailand will face Timor-Leste in the opening match of the football tournament on Dec 3.
Rajamangala National Stadium will now host Group A and B matches (two matches per day) after the relocation of 10 sports from flood-hit Songkhla, while Group C games will take place in Chiang Mai.
The women’s football competition will be held in Chonburi.
