Drawn into Group A, the hosts will face Timor Leste in their opening match on Dec 3, followed by a game against Cambodia on Dec 11, reports the Bangkok Post.
Both fixtures will be staged at Bangkok’s iconic Rajamangala Stadium, where the home crowd is expected to provide strong support.
Head coach Thawatchai Dumrong-ongtrakul oversaw the first training session at Hanasaka Yamaoka Academy, welcoming 15 players to camp.
Among the squad’s key names are midfielder Kakana Khamyok of Muang Thong United, defender Seksan Ratree from Rayong FC, and forward Iklas Sanron of PT Prachuap.
Thawatchai acknowledged the challenge of balancing national team duties with club commitments, as several players had just completed weekend fixtures.
“Right now, we are quite ready for the tournament because we had a warm-up match during the last FIFA window,” he said.
“Some players may return to train with their clubs, but we are coordinating closely to ensure fitness levels remain high. Our goal is clear - we want the gold medal, and we have 100 percent confidence in achieving it.”
Kakana echoed his coach’s determination, stressing the importance of unity and home advantage.
“Of course, this SEA Games we must win gold because we are playing at home,” he said. “Even though I feel a bit exhausted, I am ready to play in any position the coach requires. It’s not just about me - it’s about the team.
“Cambodia may have strengthened with new players, but we will focus on our training, tactics, and collective effort to reach our target.”
With expectations high, Thailand’s U23 squad enters the SEA Games campaign determined to deliver success on home soil.
