The 2025 SEA Games will take place between Dec 9-20 in three cities - Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla, while the ASEAN Para games will be held in Nakhon Ratchasima from Jan 20-26, 2026, reprost the Bangkok Post.
While no new stadium has been built for either tournament, Bangkok’s Rajamangala National Stadium has received a huge upgrade as it will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the SEA Games, Dr Gongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) said on Friday (Oct 10).
The 80th Birthday Stadium in Nakhon Ratchasima, which will be a venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the ASEAN Para Games, has also received a major facelift, he added.
Meanwhile, 30 sports have been confirmed to be held in Bangkok and its metropolitan areas, along with two demonstration sports and one value-creating sport.
They are: aquatics (swimming, diving, water polo and artistic swimming); archery; athletics; badminton; baseball and softball; basketball; bowling; boxing; cricket; cycling (road, track and BMX); horse polo; esports; extreme (rock climbing, water ski - wakeboard, skateboard); fencing; football and futsal; gymnastics; indoor hockey; ice hockey; ice skating, jujitsu; kickboxing; netball; rugby; sepak takraw; shooting; squash; table tennis; taekwondo; tennis; and indoor volleyball.
Two demonstration sports are flying discs and tug of war and the value-creating sport is mixed martial arts.
Chonburi will have 19 sports and one demonstration sport. There are: aquatics (open water swimming); billiards and snooker; canoe and rowing; cycling (mountain bike); equestrian; extreme (jet ski); floor ball; women’s football; golf; handball; hockey; modern pentathlon; sailing and windsurfing; practical shooting; teqball; beach volleyball; weightlifting; woodball; and triathlon while the demonstration sport is air sports (paragliding).
Songkhla will host 10 sports including: chess; football; judo; kabaddi; karate; muay thai; pencak silat; petanque; wrestling; and wushu.
Some football matches will be held in Chiang Mai, Dr Gongsak confirmed.
The ASEAN Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima will have 19 sports including: archery; athletics; badminton; boccia; blind football; CP football (seven-a-side); chess; cycling (track and road); goalball; judo; power lifting; shooting; swimming; table tennis; sitting volleyball; wheelchair basketball; fencing; and wheelchair tennis, while the bowling competition will take place in Bangkok.
