The incident unfolded at about 3pm, shortly after the ‘Genting Dream’ cruise liner, carrying some 4,200 foreign tourists, docked at the pier in Moo 7, Wichit.
According to Wichit Police, around 60 community taxi drivers gathered at the port and positioned themselves on both sides of the entrance, inspecting vehicles coming in and out. They allowed only taxis designated by their group to collect arriving tourists.
Tensions rose when the drivers confronted a taxi operator from outside the community. Police officers, led by Wichit Police Superintendent Col Somsak Thongkliang, quickly stepped in to mediate.
The confrontation ended without violence, injuries or damage to property. Both parties agreed to disperse and hold further discussions to resolve the dispute.
Col Somsak confirmed the incident had been defused peacefully and said police would continue to monitor the situation.
