The festival, which will continue through to Sept 1, features 15 light and sound shows and displays under the theme ‘Pearls of Andaman the Undiscovered Treasure’, as orchestrated by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket office.

The events will be held at 15 “performance points” at two main locations: the Phuket Nakara Museum (the former Chartered Bank Building) in Phuket Old Town and Saphan Hin Public Park.

The events will run daily from 6pm to midnight, “telling the story of every dimension of the beauty of The traditional culture of the Peranakan people that is still passed down to the present”, explained official reports announcing the event.

“The events also invites visitors to explore the wonders of the Andaman Sea through innovative presentations, merging traditional and contemporary elements to appeal to both Thai and international tourists,” one report notes.

There will be a special performance each day from 7pm to 10:30pm, featuring a combination of light and sound shows with various effects.

On Aug 24-25, Aug 30-31 and Sept 1, a contemporary local culture show will be held at 7pm, followed by a fireworks display and fire baton show at 7:30pm.

Attendees can explore the light and sound displays through a Walking Tour, along with other activities such as live music performances by local artists, community product shops and local food stalls.

The TAT Phuket office is also offering special souvenirs for those who take photos, check in and pin their location at the 15 performance points.

The festival is a revival of the TAT’s ‘Vijitr’ light-and-sound events held across the five regions of Thailand last year.

The aim of the series of events is to promote meaningful travel experiences and the drive towards more sustainable tourism, the TAT at the launch last year.

After the ‘VIJITR 5 Regions’ festival concludes in Phuket on Sept 1, the final edition of the festival series will be held in Phitsanulok on Sept 7-15.
