The event, held at 2pm, was led by Phuket Vice Governor Suwit Phansengiam, who also serves as Deputy Director of the Royal Volunteer Center for the province.
Vice Governor Suwit was joined by Thalang District Chief Siwat Rawangkun along with Manoch Phanchalad, Chief of the Cheng Talay Tambon Administration organisation (OrBorTor), as well as members of the Royal Volunteer Group, and dozens of local residents.
The initiative was organised under the Royal Volunteer Project, inspired by His Majesty the King’s well-known royal directive: “We do good with our hearts”. The initiative aims to cultivate civic responsibility, national pride and selfless public service.
Following the demolition of illegally constructed businesses, which began in the driving rain Wednesday last week (May 14), Surin Beach has been returned to its natural state, according to an official report of the cleanup.
Volunteers worked to clear litter, restore the environment, and enhance the landscape to make the area more welcoming for both locals and tourists, the report added.
“Surin Beach is one of Phuket’s key public spaces,” Vice Governor Suwit said. “We are now improving the area’s landscape with support from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation [PPAO] so it can be enjoyed by all once again.”
Thalang District Chief Mr Siwat added that the event was a meaningful step in restoring public access to the beach and emphasised the importance of community involvement.
He said further cooperation with relevant agencies would ensure ongoing maintenance of the area.
The event concluded with participants reciting a pledge of loyalty and commitment to the royal initiative, reaffirming their shared goal of contributing to the public good.
