The dredging project aims to remove silt, maintain cleanliness, and expand the reservoir’s capacity to hold excess water diverted from Tha Kraeng Canal during heavy rainfall. By doing so, officials hope to ease water flow and help prevent flooding around the busy Tha Kraeng Intersection.
Mayor Supachai said dredging is being carried out along both sides of the reservoir to ensure maximum water storage during the monsoon season.
He also acknowledged that the works may cause temporary inconvenience to park visitors and nearby residents.
“Phuket City Municipality apologises for any disruption caused while heavy machinery is in operation and asks for the public’s cooperation in keeping away from the work area,” Mayor Supachai said.
The reservoir, located in one of Phuket Town’s most popular public parks, serves both as a recreational area and as a key part of the city’s flood management system.
