Police were alerted to the fire at approximately 6:30pm by the Karon Police Station radio centre.
By the time officers arrived, the fire had already been extinguished. An inspection revealed that the blaze had occurred in a reception area. Burn marks were visible around an air conditioning unit and on the wall beside it.
Phattharadet Sonkaew, the hotel’s Deputy Chief Engineer, told police that an employee had turned on the air conditioner in the spa lounge around 4:30pm in preparation for arriving guests.
By approximately 5:10pm, smoke was seen coming from the room. Staff rushed to investigate and discovered a fire, which they managed to extinguish before it could spread further.
No injuries were reported, and no other property was damaged. Initial assessments point to an electrical fault in the air conditioner as the likely cause.
Police said further investigations will be carried out to confirm the cause and determine if any additional safety measures are needed.
