Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat presided over the opening ceremony of the fair, at the Robinson Lifestyle Shopping Center in Thalang, yesterday (June 11).

The fair, organised by the Andaman Phuket Muslim Women’s Association in collaboration with the Phuket Muslim Friendly Club, aims to stimulate tourism and boost local income in the lead-up to Eid al-Adha.

Governor Sophon highlighted the event’s significance in promoting the region’s tourism industry. The initiative, led by Nuanchan Samart Khumban, President of the Andaman Phuket Muslim Women’s Association, saw a large turnout, said an official report of the opening.

The expo has received substantial support from various organisations, including the Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket office, the Phuket Tourism Industry Council and Phuket Rajabhat University.

The collaborative effort aims to attract Muslim tourists during the low season and facilitate income distribution by featuring vendors selling Halal products.

Attendees can explore a wide array of Halal food, beverages and Muslim clothing in anticipation of Eid al-Adha, to be observed next Monday (June 17).

The ‘Southern Halal Expo & Tourism’ fair will continue through to this Saturday (June 15).
