Officers from the Marine Rescue Station and Fire and Rescue Division at the airport were alerted by local residents who spotted the struggling turtle on the shoreline.
Rescue personnel quickly arrived at the scene, safely lifted the turtle from the water and carefully cut away the net, freeing the animal.
The turtle was then handed over to officers from Sirinat National Park for care and rehabilitation before it can be released back into the wild.
Airports of Thailand (AoT Phuket), which operates Phuket International Airport, praised the quick response and took the opportunity to call for greater environmental responsibility.
In a statement, AoT Phuket urged the public to stop dumping garbage and abandoned fishing equipment into the sea to help protect marine life and preserve the richness of the local marine environment.
AoT Phuket reaffirmed its commitment to environmental protection under its slogan: ‘‘AOT New Way – Safe, Community-Friendly’.
