Russian arrested as illegal tour guide

PHUKET: As the police crackdown on foreigners working illegally in Phuket continues, the Phuket Tourist Police have announced the arrest of a Russian man for working illegally as a tour guide at Pak Phra Beach, beside the Chong Pak Phra Channel, which separates Phuket from the mainland.

Police arrived at the beach, in Moo 5, Mai Khao, at 8am yesterday (Apr 2) to find Russian national Andrei Duplinkski, 42, working illegally as a tour guide, Tourist Police reported.

By law, working as a tour guide is an occupation reserved for Thai nationals.

The location of the arrest was at the boat launch point at Pak Phra Beach, Tourist Police said in their report.

Photos from the scene of arrest showed Duplinkski standing on the beach in front of officers with a tour boat in the background.

The name of the tour boat operator was not included in the report.

After making the arrest, officers escorted Duplinkski to Tha Chatchai Police Station to face charges, Tourist Police confirmed.
