‘Road Accident Prevention Center’ for New Year declared open

PHUKET: The Phuket ‘Road Accident Prevention and Reduction Center for the New Year 2025’ was officially declared open yesterday (Dec 25).

The announcement came by declaration by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul during a video conference held with provincial governors throughout the country.

Joining the video ‘event’ were key figures such as the Minister of Transport, Minister of Public Health, Minister of Education, Minister of Justice and the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police.

In Phuket, Governor Sophon Suwannarat attended the ceremony from the Provincial Hall meeting room, joined by Sopon Thongsai, Chief of the Phuket Provincial Office of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM Phuket), and representatives from various government agencies.

The ceremony opened with a report from the DDPM Director-General, who outlined operational guidelines for reducing road accidents during the holiday season, said an official report of the conference call.

In his address, Deputy PM Anutin emphasised the critical importance of public safety and the protection of officers, pledging full government support to ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency during the campaign, the report said.

Other ministers and the National Police Chief also reiterated their commitment to the initiative, highlighting the importance of inter-agency collaboration, public awareness campaigns, and strict enforcement of traffic laws, the report added.

The Command Center for Preventing and Reducing Road Accidents during the New Year Festival 2025 is a collaborative effort between government and private agencies. Its goal is to reduce accidents and fatalities, ensuring the safety and confidence of the public during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.To support the campaign, the road safety network provided resources and materials for the prevention effort, the report explained.

DPM Anutin concluded the event by addressing the media, sharing key measures and strategies aimed at minimising road accidents during the New Year festivities, the report said.
