Organisers explained the event is a collaboration between local community leaders, village committees and relevant government agencies, organised to promote the local Rawai area.
A series of specialised exhibitions offered products and food unique to the Rawai area that help stimulate tourism and the local economy and create unity in the local community, orgainsers added.
Yesterday’s opening ceremony at village 5 in Rawai was overseen by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat, who was joined by Thiraphong Thaowedang, Deputy Mayor of Rawai, in addition to selected executives, municipal council members and local residents.
Governor Sophon praised the efforts of the local community in creating and staging the event, adding that he hoped it could help stimulate the local economy and serve as a springboard to help create sustainablility within the Rawai area.
“Phuket is not only a destination for tourists but also a source of opportunity and economic development at the community level,” Governor Sophon said in remarks delivered at the opening of the event.
“The gathering of the villagers in organizing this event reflects the power of unity that leads to success, and I ask everyone to continue to maintain this unity,” he added.
