Privy Councillor arrives to deliver royal landslide aid

PHUKET: Privy Councillor Gen Dapong Ratanasuwan arrived in Phuket yesterday (Aug 27) on behalf of His Majesty the King to deliver royal gift bags and essential supplies to those in need following the deadly landslide last Friday that killed 13 people.

Gen Dapong, along with representatives from the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation under Royal Patronage, presented 257 royal gift bags and consumer goods to Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat and Mueang Phuket District Chief Worasit Phutcheep at a ceremony held at the Karon Municipality office.

The items were distributed to residents affected by the landslide and flooding to provide immediate relief and encouragement, said an official report of the visit.

The landslide killed 13 people and resulted in the injury of 19 others, the report noted.

The heavy rainfall that caused the landslide caused significant damage across Karon, Rawai and Chalong, and affected 260 households, noted the report.

In addition to the gifts, Gen Dapong conveyed a message of compassion and support from Their Majesties the King and Queen to the affected individuals and the officials working on the ground. He personally visited six families in Karon, who expressed profound gratitude for the royal generosity, the report said.

Gen Dapong also took the opportunity to commend Governor Sophon, district officials and royal volunteers for their swift and dedicated response to the disaster, the report continued.

He later participated in a meeting at the Karon Municipality office to assess the ongoing situation and coordinate further relief efforts, the report added.

Local authorities, along with related agencies, are continuing to provide essential supplies and temporary shelter to those displaced, ensuring they can resume their normal lives as soon as possible. Provincial officials is also maintaining close monitoring of the situation, the report concluded.
