The conversation included key government and private sector agencies, including Phuket Vice Governor Samawit Suphanphai among other officials from Wichit Municipality, Phuket Flight Control Center, Mueang Phuket District Office, Phuket International Airport as well representatives from fisheries, tourism and environmental offices.
The discussion yesterday followed a workshop held from May 8-10 by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, titled ‘First Seaplane Operations Toward Thailand’s Aviation’, noted an official report of the meeting.
The workshop in May aimed to foster understanding among stakeholders on the roles, regulations and processes required for legal seaplane operations and the issuance of permits for water-based landing and takeoff zones.
During the meeting yesterday, Ms Worakan presented Siam Seaplane’s readiness to support Phuket’s tourism sector through seaplane services.
While there was broad support for the initiative’s potential to enhance tourism, officials raised concerns about possible environmental impacts and the effects on local communities’ livelihoods, the official report noted.
The exact location for the proposed take-off and landing area in Phuket was not revealed in the report.
Vice Governor Samawit requested that Siam Seaplane Co Ltd provide a comprehensive project proposal to facilitate an in-depth review by all relevant agencies, ensuring any environmental and community considerations are addressed before moving forward.
