The event, held each year at Victory Field in Thalang, pays tribute to  Phuket’s two famed Heroines Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Sri Soonthorn ‒ better known locally as Chan and Mook ‒ for leading locals in successfully repelling a Burmese invasion of Phuket in 1785

Much of the itinerary for the annual event was confirmed at a meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall chaired by Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat yesterday (Feb 14).

The group ordination of novice monks will be held at Thepwanaram Temple (Wat Manik) from Mar 9-23, while the alms-giving ceremonies and honouring of descendants of the two Heroines will be held at Wat Muang Komaraphat on Mar 12.

The laying of wreaths and paying respects at the Heroines Monument will be held on Mar 13.

A ceremony to raise the national flag will be held at Victory Field in Thalang on Mar 9 and Mar 13.

The popular festival at Victory Field complete with a light and sound show complementing the historical drama played out live on stage and  hundreds of stalls sell local delicacies will be held at Victory Field on Mar 13-15.

“It is scheduled to be a grand event to honor Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Sri Soonthon and the brave heroes of Thalang, and to promote tourism in Phuket province by using the soft power of cultural tourism as another selling point in tourism,” Governor Sophon said.
