The accident occurred at the usual locale for tour bus brake failure, in front of Wat Patong on the last steep descent into Patong, just after 1:30pm.
In total, seven vehicles were involved in the multiple collision, confirmed officers from the Patong office of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM-Patong).
The pregnant Thai woman, who was a passenger in a Mazda pickup truck her husband was driving, reported pain to the side of her midriff, but suffered no other obvious injuries.
Regardless, first-responders took the woman to Patong Hospital for further medical examination as a precaution, officials confirmed.
Several of the Russian tourist and the tour guides on board were also taken to Patong Hospital, though no serious injuries were reported
The bus driver was identified as Kitti Wachatchachon, 39.
Patong Police officers were quick to have the damaged vehicles cleared from blocking the busy road into Patong.
Police have yet to reveal any details of their investigation into the incident, but the bus itself had suffered minor damage to both its front left and front right panels.
The runaway tour bus yesterday came just less than two weeks after another tour bus ran off the road due to “brake failure”.
In that accident, on the night of Feb 13, a Thai woman riding a motorbike sustained serious injuries after being struck by the bus while four Chinese tourists on the bus itself suffered minor injuries. (See story here.)
