The donation ceremony took place in Baan Khun Phum Building at Vachira Phuket Hospital at 9am.

After a week missing from local government public relations reports, Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat returned to day to preside over the event.

Present to hand over the funds were PPAO President Rewat Areerob, joined by PPAO Vice President Akkrawat Sirithanthanakorn and a host of other representatives and guests.

The B30mn donation is aimed at boosting the Heart Disease Center’s capacity for diagnosis and treatment, “benefiting both Thai citizens and expatriates in Phuket and surrounding areas”, said an official report of the event.

The funds will be used to purchase essential medical equipment and materials, ensuring timely and comprehensive care for heart disease patients, the report added.

Vachira Phuket Hospital Director Dr Wirasak Lothongkam accepted the donation on behalf of the hospital, which serves as the main government hospital on the island.

“The initiative seeks to improve healthcare access and outcomes for heart disease patients in Phuket, neighbouring provinces, and foreign residents, underscoring the region’s commitment to advancing medical care,” Dr Wirasak said.

Of note, Thaneth Tantipiriyakij, President of the Phuket Tourist Association, recently identified medical treatment and services provided by public healthcare facilities among the infrastructure development needs in Phuket not being met by budget allocation by the central government.
