The project aims to improve access to dialysis services for local residents, reducing travel time and hospital overcrowding.
The ceremony was led by PPAO President Rewat Areerob and attended by government officials, healthcare representatives, community leaders and members of the public.
The dialysis centre, a two-story reinforced concrete building with a budget of about B32 million, is expected to be completed by January 2026. Once operational, it will accommodate up to 37 patients.
“This project reflects our commitment to providing accessible healthcare services to all Phuket residents,” said Mr Rewat. “Many patients in Thalang face long waits and travel distances for dialysis. This centre will alleviate those challenges and improve their quality of life.”
The project was initiated following recommendations from PPAO Councillor Nopphaphan Sipsak, who proposed a dialysis facility in Thalang to address the growing demand for kidney treatment. The PPAO collaborated with the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) to secure land at the Srisoonthorn Health Promotion Hospital in order to make the new facility a reality.
The new dialysis centre is part of a broader effort by the PPAO to enhance healthcare services across the province. The organisation has also launched the ‘Nearby Doctors’ programme, transferring 21 subdistrict hospitals under its jurisdiction to provide localised healthcare. This ensures residents can access medical treatment close to home, with referrals available for more complex cases.
“This dialysis centre will serve as a model for expanding similar services to other districts in Phuket, ensuring comprehensive care for all residents,” said Mr Rewat.
Local residents have long voiced concerns about the challenges of accessing dialysis, including long queues and time-consuming travel to hospitals. The new facility promises to address these issues, providing much-needed relief to patients and their families, he added.
