Patong Police were alerted to the incident at 12:06pm. Rescue workers from the Phuket Kusontham Foundation’s Patong branch, along with diving personnel, were dispatched to the scene to search for the missing man.
The body was discovered washed ashore by waves at about 2pm. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and taken ashore.
A forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital examined the body and confirmed that the man’s name, nationality and other identifying details remain unknown. He is described as thin, approximately 165 centimetres tall, dark-skinned, with tattoos on both shoulders and upper arms.
Local resident Sakda Mat-Yuyen told police he had been sitting on the beach when he saw the man struggling in the strong waves before being swept away from shore. Mr Sakda immediately raised the alarm and urged people nearby to call for help.
Police questioned beachgoers and local residents, but no one recognised the deceased.
The body has been transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital, where a forensic pathologist will conduct a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death and assist in identifying the man.
