Police launch anti-crime blitz for Christmas, New Year

PHUKET: Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum led an event yesterday (Dec 17) to launch a crime suppression campaign in the run-up to Christmas and New Year.

More than 320 personnel, including police officers, soldiers, Navy security officers, administrative officers and volunteers were assembled for the lanch, held at the Phuket Provincial Police headquarters

Pol Col Kasidin Chaikratok, Director of the Phuket Provincial Police Operations Division, outlined the objectives of the campaign, explaining that the Phuket campaign aligns with the Royal Thai Police’s nationwide directive to crack down on crime from Dec 17-23.

“As one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations, Phuket sees a significant influx of both Thai and international visitors during the holiday season. To ensure their safety, provincial officials has intensified security measures, focusing on crime prevention, property protection, and smooth traffic flow,” he said.

Pol Maj Gen Sinlert emphasised that the operation demonstrates the readiness and commitment of local authorities to uphold safety standards.

“Today’s efforts showcase our proactive approach to implementing Police Region 8’s guidelines, building public confidence while ensuring a safe environment for residents and tourists,” he said.  

Key priorities of the operation include crackdowns on firearms, explosives, illegal drugs, suspects with outstanding warrants, and online criminal activities.

Authorities aim to deter potential threats and create a secure atmosphere for the holiday celebrations, reinforcing Phuket’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination, Maj Gen Sinlert said.
