According to a report by Phuket Provincial Police, the incident took place in Soi Suwannakan 2/1, off Trang Rd, Ratsada, at about 12:20am.
The truck owner, Arun Niyomkitkar, 61, a resident of the area, reported hearing a loud noise resembling an electrical short circuit shortly after midnight. Upon inspection, he discovered flames erupting from the truck’s engine compartment.
Earlier that day, Mr Arun had taken the vehicle for radiator repairs, though he did not suspect any issues that could have led to a fire.
Phuket City Police and fire services responded promptly to the scene and extinguished the fire before it could spread.
While damage to the truck was reported, authorities have not disclosed the value of the damage suffered.
Police did not report any suspects or evidence of foul play, and Mr Arun stated he did not suspect any malicious cause behind the fire.
However, the incident remains under review by police as they complete their investigation.
